Bald alien babe
/I post a lot of selfies online, moreso since I started transitioning. Apparently, that’s a common thing among trans people; when you’re so used to feeling so wrong in your own body, you want to document the times you feel right. The pictures of myself I took before I stopped trying to pretend I was a cis male never looked right to me; my masculinity was a poorly-fitting costume that I wore to be as inconspicuous as possible. I didn’t know what it was back then, but I see now that trying to do this muted so much of myself to the point where I didn’t feel a connection to the version that showed up in photographs.
I definitely feel better about the ones I take now because I just feel this calm in my natural state that I haven’t felt in years, if ever. It’s still early in my transition, but my real self is starting to become more visible, and I only anticipate the euphoria will grow as the effects of HRT take hold (whenever I get the prescription).
I had a portrait session with local photographer Invidia Obscura a few weeks ago; I loved what they did the last time I shot with them, and since I came out back in August, I had been hoping to get another good batch of gender-affirming photos. As many selfies as I take, I wanted to have some nicer pictures of myself for the website and my web presence in general.
They told me that I seemed a lot more comfortable this time around.
I’ve been thinking a lot more about how I use my web presence. I want to get better at using Twitter, and to get back into writing regularly, but I also want the material I post here to be a little more substantial than just the mundane updates on my life.
I’ve decided to start a subscription based newsletter to give me a space to write more about the small stuff that I do or think about any given week (or whenever). It’s not going to replace this blog, but I’m aiming for a more conversational and intimate space to keep people updated on what’s happening with me.
I’ve decided to call my newsletter Bald Alien Babe, and I hope you (a) subscribe to it and (b) share it with your friends. I won’t have a set schedule to post, but will generally try to have something new each week.
